ION CLUB CABARETE
The Best of Surfing Elements
Location : Cabarete, Dominican Republic
Season : open on December 15th 2021
Opening hours : Daily 10.00am – 06.00pm
While searching for the route to the Indies, Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Hispaniola in 1492. Today, the island is divided into two parts: Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Cabarete is located on the north coast, which has become a real paradise for kitesurfers, and more recently for wingfoilers. The village has grown since the 90's, and has become a cosmopolitan meeting place at the beach as well as on the lagoon, with ideal sailing conditions most of the year. It is here in Cabarete that our ION CLUB Dominican Republic center is located, next to the Villa Taina Hotel, south of the lagoon.

The best spots in Cabarete
The town, which is located on a 4 km long sandy beach, is a small paradise for those who crave sun and wind. Cabarete is a spot known as the “El D´orado of the Caribbean for kitesurfers and wingfoilers”, because it offers countless opportunities to practice the water sports you love, and endless sessions. Cabarete is THE kitesurfing spot in the region. Beautiful and romantic horseback rides on beaches of several kilometers, or mountain biking are also available nearby. This place has a particularly good atmosphere that will make your wingfoil or kitesurfing vacation unforgettable. Enjoy your fruity cocktail at happy hour, and let yourself be carried away to the rhythms of merengue and bachata.
ION CLUB Cabarete, offers windsurf and kitesurf, and now also wingfoil courses, and also rental equipment. Fanatic and Duotone wingfoil equipment is also available.
The variety of the place is unique. Flat water, sometimes chop, the swell, the waves … nothing is missing. Kitesurfers and wingfoilers can’t interfere with each other as the kitesurfing area is separated from the windsurfing and wingfoil area.
On land it is impossible to be bored day or night. Renting a car or planning a day trip is easy. Whether you’re alone, a couple, or with friends or family, Cabarete has a lot to offer. It’s the ideal destination for everyone, kite or wing enthusiasts and beginners, as well as any non-sailing friends, family and partners.
La Boca -Kite Lagoon
This spot is described by local riders as the perfect place to practice your tricks because of the incredible flat water and constant wind.
The spot is located at the mouth of the river. It is relatively narrow, but ideal for training freestylers. It is recommended for independent kitesurfers.
Although it is not the most frequented place by kiters, most people or groups start their downwinders here, at first on the river with flat water, and then head out to sea towards the village of Cabarete or Playa Encuentro. Be careful, there is sometimes a big shorebreak. The spot of La Boca is about 7 km east of Cabarete (upwind).
BEST PERIODS
December, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September
WIND
The wind in Cabarete is often light in the morning, but it strengthens around noon under the influence of the trade winds. The best wind conditions are from January to March and from June to September. The reef is about 600 meters from the beach, ideal for wave lovers, and has depth. In the large lagoon the water is flat and easy to access. Sometimes there are chops, but this spot always offers easy and safe sailing conditions. From May to October just in front of ION CLUB Cabarete, the wind is side shore and comes from the right, varying between 20 and 25 knots. From November to April, the wind is more side-offshore and less constant, and the waves are higher and more frequent. Wave lovers, you have been warned! Cabarete is the most famous place for kitesurfing and wingfoiling in the Dominican Republic.
WAVES
From November to April , the conditions are perfect for intermediate wave riders and wave freaks. Upwind of the center there is a shallow water section where beginners and intermediates feel comfortable and the tuition conditions are excellent. Beginners and intermediates can practice close to the shore while more experienced windsurfers can conquer the waves on the reef.
