Our ION CLUB in Cabarete is located at the Frontloop Restaurant in the western/downwind part of Cabarete bay and is our Homebase for all Kitesurf activities. As one of our storage guest, you will have your own private storage space assigned to you. You will be able to fit up to three kites, your harness and of course your twintip board. Your equipment will be under 24 hrs surveillance. You will be free to use all the other center facilities, such as showers, changing rooms, Wifi and even the rescue service at the spot is also included.
In case the wind is different than what you expected, of course you can always top up your own equipment range with our brandnew Duotone rental gear.

The Kitesurfing spot on Cabarete is fuelled by Tradewinds and Atlantic swells throughout the entire year. The Tradewinds get accelerated by a proximate mountain-range, creating a perfect playground for kitesurfers of all levels. Generally Cabarete is subject to a great variability of conditions, caused by swell direction, swell size and wind direction. In close proximity kitesurfers on Cabarete find fantastic waveriding conditions as well as perfect flat water.
Ask our local Team Members for recommendations on where to kitesurf on every given day. Kiting only on one spot during your stay on Cabarete would be a pity. Happy exploring:)!

Information
All our Kiteboarding Storage boxes are located right on the beach in front of the Kite Spot and are expecially designed to keep all your Kitesurfing gear safe. Please note, that access to the storage facilities is in many Centers restricted to the opening times of the Center. If you require access outside these hours, please contact the Center directly to arrange.
In all ION CLUB Centers, except of Tarifa and Cabarete, there is a Rescue Service included in your storage price. We consider situations, during which due to an injury, broken equipment, or change in Wind, assistance from our Team is needed, as a Rescue. Drifting due to lack of level or experience is considered a Taxi Service and will be charged by the Center.

A word about
ION CLUB Cabarete
While searching for the route to the Indies, Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Hispaniola in 1492. Today, the island is divided into two parts: Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Cabarete is located on the north coast, which has become a real paradise for kitesurfers, and more recently for wingfoilers. The village has grown since the 90's, and has become a cosmopolitan meeting place at the beach as well as on the lagoon, with ideal sailing conditions most of the year. It is here in Cabarete that our ION CLUB Dominican Republic center is located, next to the Villa Taina Hotel, south of the lagoon.

WIND
The wind in Cabarete is often light in the morning, but it strengthens around noon under the influence of the trade winds. The best wind conditions are from January to March and from June to September. The reef is about 600 meters from the beach, ideal for wave lovers, and has depth. In the large lagoon the water is flat and easy to access. Sometimes there are chops, but this spot always offers easy and safe sailing conditions. From May to October just in front of ION CLUB Cabarete, the wind is side shore and comes from the right, varying between 20 and 25 knots. From November to April, the wind is more side-offshore and less constant, and the waves are higher and more frequent. Wave lovers, you have been warned! Cabarete is the most famous place for kitesurfing and wingfoiling in the Dominican Republic.
WAVES
From November to April , the conditions are perfect for intermediate wave riders and wave freaks. Upwind of the center there is a shallow water section where beginners and intermediates feel comfortable and the tuition conditions are excellent. Beginners and intermediates can practice close to the shore while more experienced windsurfers can conquer the waves on the reef.
HOW TO GET TO CABARETE ?
Puerto Plata Airport
The closest airport to Cabarete is the Gregorio Luperon International Airport in Puerto Plata, on the north coast of the island and about 30 km west of Cabarete. Taxi services are available at all times as well as car rental services. Few flights from Europe land in Puerto Plata in recent years. If you choose to come via Puerto Plata, it is better to fly via Frankfurt or North America.
Santo Domingo Airport
An easier trip from France and Western Europe would be arriving at the international airport Las Americas in Santo Domingo, which is located in the capital on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. It is about a 3h 30 - 4h drive from Cabarete. The Spanish airlines Iberia and Air Europa offer flights via Madrid almost every day. On site, taxi and car rental services are available at all times. Rental cars can usually be returned to the airport in Puerto Plata.
Santo Domingo Airport

The third airport is the Cibao International Airport in Santiago, only an hour away from Cabarete. For those transiting from Eastern Europe, it is recommended to first take a connecting flight at the nearest and most convenient airport from a Western European city, and then take a direct flight to Puerto Plata.
